I greatly appreciate Matthew’s transparency and the Story Playbook framework. Our creative agency implements Don Miller’s StoryBrand model in our work with clients. Matthew’s framework overlays perfectly to enhance and leverage the story, helping people identify with the character in our story. We were missing vital pieces, like, giving the character a name (vs. a job title), $ cost/opportunity cost, and the moral of the story. It’s clear that these will yield greater results. Matthew’s excellent use of breakout exercises helped our team nail critical concepts for our own agency that we can implement immediately.

In just a few short weeks, and with Matthew’s clear structure and feedback, I was able to recreate my website text and get rapid results. With Matthew’s guidance, we have created simplified messaging that is relevant to our niche and helps us to communicate our brand story in a way that is compelling. Before getting assistance from Matthew, we had multiple products for customers to select from, which in hindsight was probably a little overwhelming and too complex. In late 2015 I commented on one of Matthew’s thought pieces on LinkedIn, about small businesses needing to dedicate 20% of time to winning new business. I said that was impossible for a micro-business like mine where I am delivering 5 days a week, and I was surprised and pleased when Matthew took time out to engage with me. He gave me a challenge to think about what I could do to carve out time win new business and in response I worked out a way to use ‘dead’ time in my weekly commute to build and keep in touch with a network of the kind of people who look for my skills.

I figured 2 hours extra delivery work a week on top of 50 or 60 hours during the week made little difference; 2 hours networking on top of 0 hours during the week would be a step change for me. I’m really pleased to say that at the end of my next engagement I was able to walk from one contract into the next without any down time – and I chose that contract from 3 or 4 potential engagements where people were keen to get me into their businesses to help them. I don’t believe I could have done this if I hadn’t acted on Matthew’s challenge, and I am glad to recommend him.

At Oracle’s annual sales kickoff, I was surprised when Matthew was introduced and then told us about the power of storytelling. He walked us through the components of a good story as well as the science behind the benefits of using it in a sales context. As a content marketer at heart, I believe in the importance of the quality of your messaging. Whether that’s your ad copy or opening on a cold call, the quality of your message will make all the difference. Mathew’s speech nailed it! It was inspiring, empowering and actionable.

He made me curious so I went a bit deeper. I saw his book, the Introvert’s Edge, was a top seller so I read it. I got so much out of it from a sales perspective! I studied his structure for storytelling and felt it was attainable, even for a big company like ours, to adopt. Credit goes to our sales leader, Chris, but I’m proud to say that our division at Oracle has led the way in using Matthew’s framework for storytelling. Our customer win stories are now more than just a list of cold facts. We’re crafting rich, descriptive language that is not only enjoyable to read but also effective at educating other sales people.

I didn’t stop there. I caught him as a guest on a podcast, signed up for his newsletter and read many of his blogs. His Rapid Growth Academy seemed perfect for my wife’s leadership coaching business. We only recently signed up but I can see there’s a lot of value in following his process. In fact, we dropped our marketing agency in favor of the Rapid Growth Academy. The technology he uses, the quality of his materials and the process he takes us through is top-notch and just what we needed.

When Matthew Pollard presented to our Make-A-Wish Board of Directors at our annual retreat it provided a great opportunity for our Board to find new ways to share our Mission through storytelling.

Our Board left our retreat feeling inspired, motivated and confident in their ability to speak to donors and community supporters. They learned how to communicate why a wish is so important to the children in our community who are battling a critical illness. They also learned how to communicate why granting a wish brings value to the donor and the community and how to incorporate those stories into one seamless and engaging narrative that they could confidently share.

Even our leadership team, who were already very knowledgeable about our sharing the mission of Make-A-Wish, felt they learned new and powerful ways to communicate the value of a wish through Matthew’s storytelling process.

I was blown away to hear one board member, who was new to the concept of storytelling, share the most compelling story of the day. I can easily see him using this new skill in every element of fundraising and throughout his career.

Similarly, new members of the Board, who didn’t have a story to share leading into the workshop, left feeling inspired and comfortable talking about the value of Make-A-Wish to the world. I believe this will have a substantial impact on these board members’ ability to raise money, along with the rest of our team, as they learn our newly created stories as well.

My favorite thing about the Marketing Magic Retreat was Matthew sharing his business model and how he makes decisions as to what speaking engagements to take. It showed me an entirely different way of structuring a business.
